It’s a Vegan life

Quinoa. Kale. Kombucha. Vegan? You don’t have to be a hipster to be a vegan, and when people make the choice to be one, they do it for the rest of their lives.

Go into any healthy food venu and you’ll see it plastered on the walls. “We do pickled-anything-in-a jar.” “Brussell sprouts are cool man” (the “man” part is optional). “Let’s put any liquid in an empty vegemite or mason jar.” And don’t forget Kale – use it in every. single. conceivable. salad. (The dot points were for emphasis incase you were wondering about the grammatical error. It’s good to break the rules sometimes, am I right?).

What has all this talk about hipsters got to do with vegans? Well let me gently take you down that road.

Firstly, it’s widely known that a healthy breakfast has been around since the begining of time. And contrary to popular belief the hipsters weren’t the first to discover the avacado. Vegans have been incorporating it into their morning routines for decades. It goes well with beans, Gazpacho, Tufu, salad dressings and even vegan icecream. If there was ever a foodie type that reinvented the avocado six times over it’s the Vegan! Hipsters, you’ve been schooled.

There are very good reasons why people become vegans in addition to feeling great in the morning. For example grains, plants and fruits are rich in vitamins B1, C and E as well as high in folic acid, magnesium and iron. It’s even been said that in some studies, vegan lifestyles can lower mortality rates because the foods are great fighters of cardiovascular disease. Vegan foods also have the benefit of being low in cholesterol, (for those with high cholesterol, vegan food has plenty of choices outside boring rice cakes), and low in saturated fats. People with Type 2 Diabeties may find their health improves with a vegan lifestyle, however we recommend that you consult your doctor about your particular situation before making that shift.

So there you have it. Vegans don’t listen to folk music and drink Pabst Blue Ribbon beer (some might of course). The modern day fads can come and go as they please. When a person chooses to go Vegan it requires effort, imagination and dedication. And that’s what the team at Cafe Axxess have in spades! We have catered for vegans for many, many years.
